Q. "I need to file a document with the Dallas County District Court. It's already after 5:00 p.m. HELP!...what can I do?"

A. In an effort to expand services to the legal community, the Dallas County District Clerk's Office has expanded services to provide for twenty-four hour filing. District Court Civil Pleadings can be filed after regular business hours using the "After Hours Kiosk" located in the George L. Allen Courts Building. In 1999 the ABA revised the Civil Discovery Standards to address certain practical aspects of the discovery process that are not otherwise covered by state or federal rules. Two of these Standards, #29 and #30, address electronic discovery. Taking into consideration the changes in this area of law in the last five years, the ABA Litigation Section has proposed a new set of electronic discovery Standards. The Committee revised the two existing Standards and added three new Standards.

Haynes & Boone's Barry McNeil serves as co-chair of this task force. Mr. McNeil, has over 30 years of experience as a trial lawyer. He served with the Antitrust Division of the DOJ, before moving to private practice. Mr. McNeil is encouraging comments from judges, lawyers, and academicians.
